The technology is equivalent to today's technology, we don't exactly have battlesuits.

Also the explanation for the monster dens was because they're meant to be for people who want combat that's not against PC's. Otherwise the only potential combat for people who want it(and there should be options as this is a sandbox RP) would be against PC's, and not everyone is into that.
