As they delve deeper into a number of disturbing anomalies, they discover a horrifying truth about their mother, which leads them to question themselves and the reality in which they exist. --- It is the winter and first quarter of the year 2014. The family name is Palmer. Depending on your character’s age and gender, this might have changed into something else. Their hometown is Kingsmouth, Maine. The Palmer family is Caucasian. The story assumes that your character has moved away from Kingsmouth, which is why all the siblings must return there for the funeral arrangements and other necessities. A Fair Warning Certain points in the story might seem slow, but they are not superfluous. There will be scenes that might be graphic or disturbing to read. Certain themes and topics might be of sensitive or complex nature: religion, metaphysics, myths, psychology, etc. Judith Palmer, the Mother This is the siblings’ late mother. She was born in 1949. Her thoughts and ideals and her soul were as turbulent as the stormy blizzards of Maine themselves. Judith’s presence may have been charismatic in certain instances and her passions and beliefs may have been prominent, but she was nonetheless deeply troubled by her own philosophies, heavily romanticized internal conflicts, and often reprehensible social actions. She often used her physical attributes and charisma and magnetism to achieve social and romantic dominance, which is how she seduced and tricked her husband into marrying her, even if she had a tendency to struggle with her personal integrity when her appearance or personality was marked. Judith was intelligent, perceptive, sophisticated, cunning, and adaptable, but extremely ruthless and abusive and self-centered, which made her emotionally sensitive and conflicted to the point of moodiness. She was intensely self-critical and introspective, even brooding, and often found thinking and talking to herself for extended periods of time. Judith’s dwelled on pains and perceived injustices of her life, often to the point of over-indulgence, and she often mused on the circumstances that brought her to a specific point in time. She was cynical and world-weary and jaded, extremely passionate and dedicated to prominent personal beliefs that were usually controversial. Judith saw her own values and passions as above or better than those of her husband and children and others, which manifested as arrogance and a martyr-esque attitude. She had an intense drive and determination to live out her philosophies without regard to those around her, which produced numerous conflicts and alienated her from society. Towards the end of her days, she became extremely self-destructive. Family History The Palmer family has a strong history in Kingsmouth. They are of English and Irish descent. Francis “Frank” Palmer, the siblings’ late father, and his father before him and so on were all fishermen. Frank worked as the harbormaster of Kingsmouth in the last years of his life. He died shortly after Judith became pregnant with her last child, the youngest sibling. Francis Palmer was the direct opposite of Judith Palmer, the woman he married. He was kind and down to Earth, loving and caring of others. His friends and parents never explicitly stated their opinion about Judith, but most of them thought the woman deceptive and abusive, which she ultimately turned out to be. Why the woman wanted to marry Francis was not obvious for the eye to see, but there was a very specific reason, which has remained unknown to most people so far. --- Character Sheet Send your completed character sheet to me in a private message.
Name # Miranda Greene Age # 39 Height # 5’2 Religion # Protestant Profile # Miranda lives in Boston, Massachusetts. She is a professor in metaphysical philosophy at Boston University, which is a position that Miranda attained a few years after her graduation from Harvard. Boston has been her primary residence for quite some time. After graduating High School in Augusta, Maine, higher educational studies was the only option available to her besides returning to Kingsmouth, which was something that she absolutely refused to do. Her spiteful mother, Judith, was not exactly an inspiration or warming presence to be around. However, Miranda never let her disapproval of Judith cloud her disposition towards her siblings. They were always welcome to stay with her in Boston, and they did whenever the need arose. Miranda has been more of a mother to her siblings than their actual mother ever was or ever would or could be. Miranda’s ideals are dominated by altruism and loyalty. There has never been a problem that she could not handle. Few predicaments in her life have brought her to tears, but she is not without emotion. Miranda is extremely emotional, but in the right place and at the right time. She is loyal to herself and to others in the sense that she is reliable and always keeps her word. However, Miranda can be selective about who she gives her word to. She always assumes that other people know how to behave and think and that they will keep their word, but she is often disappointed. Miranda’s refined philosophy is rarely shared by anyone else, which is a pity. Her thoughts about the world and other things are consistent, which means that they do not change unless the change is properly prepared and necessary and contribute to a better way of life. This also means that Miranda is not prone to a turbulent existence. She enjoys her home, perhaps too much, and she can be exceedingly stubborn about everything and anything. However, for the most part, she is wise and calm and extremely patient, and supportive and loving of those she cares for. Family is one of the most important aspects of life to Miranda. Miranda married a man named David Greene, in 1999. He was a student at Harvard, but not in the same class. They have been married for fifteen years and they have two girls, Amanda and Leila. The former is thirteen years old and the latter is eight years old. David turned out to become a man of considerable wealth, through his profession, which secured the Greene family domestic peace. They own a decently sized house in the suburbs of Boston, complete with a spare bedroom for guests, a backyard, and a garage. What is interesting to note is that Miranda’s children have never met their grandmother, whom they believe has already departed. This is Miranda’s dark secret, which she has kept from her husband’s knowledge as well. Miranda has a thing for writing in a diary, a place in which she can store all of her thoughts about life and the world around her. Some of her most important philosophical revelations originate in her diary, sometimes in entries that date several years. It is the one place and the one thing that makes Miranda understand her own existence, but not her mind.
Rules and Pledges Emerge yourself into your character and the story. I value dedication above all else. Spend time on your posts, take time to develop your character, ask for quick character dialog/responses from the rest of us for your post if you have to, and avoid making this roleplay part of your everyday rotation of “whatever, I’ll make some posts.” If you want to leave, all you need to do is send me a message with the words “I quit.” I will not ask why or otherwise bother you about it.
