It might be the Harry x Ginny syndrome where the author feeds it to you so blatantly you can't help but go along with it. Naruto's final pairing was no better in that regard. So little tact is used, it's all about "Hey she thought about him this time." or "She's clearly watching him with strong empathy and wants to be close to him." and then people just accept it no matter how poorly put together it all ends up. But pairings are in the eye of the beholder and we can't change what the author gives us, just gotta live with it and do better with the characters they got. That's what we're trying to do, that's what you and double mm are doing. 

I feel for Gale cause of his romantic attachment, so I hope he remains likable even if he doesn't get the girl in the end. Katniss always felt a little asexual to me, boys were never on the mind for her, it was just survival and Peeta's affection was used for it. You never know though, I might be a Katniss and Peeta fan by the end, we'll see.
