Nope, they're actually from a city (Arenious) that has some crystals that are used as an energy source. This has led to some technological advances but those for the most part have been discouraged by the very powerful church in that city. (Similarly to the Catholic Church during medieval times) a representation of their home city can be seen here in this banner/icon,

The tech isn't the safest either. Since it's not supposed to be made the conditions and resources are less than ideal so sometime it breaks...or blows up
