That all comes down to luck, personality and compromise, really. If you need your own space and such, you'll probably be less likely to stay with someone who smothers you (I had a gf who would text me [i]non-stop[/i], even when I was in a movie theatre. Then when I told her I was at the movies, she'd keep texting asking "Is it done yet?").
Where we live, my wife and I are around each other 24/7. Sometimes we're the only people we see for up to a month! But there are always ways to find time for yourself if you need it. I'll fire up the PS4 or she'll sit down with a book or I'll go out to do one job while she goes out to do another. We've been married nearly 5 years now and've learned not to feel guilty when we just want to go off and do our own thing for a little while :P
