I was thinking more along the lines of informally talking it over in the OOC, personally.
Something like [i]"Character X sees Character Y a bit like a younger sibling, Character Z and Character V have a friendly rivalry, Character Y has a huge crush on Character Z, Character V and Character X were already questing partners before joining the group together..."[/I] etc...
