In this universe, an asteroid traveling at 70 percent of c can be defeated by placing a swarm of objects in its immediate trajectory; at those velocities, any object swarm will do--such as old iron ball bearings or worn out sneakers. FTL drives and FTL sensors would ensure that the defender would have a sizable amount of time to react in kind.
