Totally. Make as many as you want so long as you keep each relevant. 

^Keep in mind I don't mean you have to use each character in every post. Just don't forget they exist. Each character should be a primary driving force in the story who will at some point get their time to shine. Maybe they'll go off alone at some point and return later, or maybe they pull off something amazing. Just don't treat them like they never existed if you get bored with them. Ya know? 
I have a few characters in mind. And plans for each if things pan out properly. :)
