Static maps wouldn't work; they'd constantly be rendered outdated due to the perpetual, sporadic movement of celestial bodies. You're not going to get 'lost' in space like you could at sea because of space's vast emptiness and its three-dimensional nature. Everything's in plain view (figuratively speaking; if your spacecraft runs out of power for whatever reason, then you're going to have issues of course). It's just getting there in a timely fashion is the problem, but calculating where a planet will be within a specific time frame should be simple (like you said). Ships would form their own maps dynamically I'd imagine, but they'd be unique to them only. But honestly, I'm done caring. I'm quitting the RP. It's really the only thing I'm good at. Cya.
