"Great catch, Liam," Shiranui praised as the egg he resumed carrying after leaving Ecruteak City began to hatch. When the top part of the egg broke off, a series of spikes opened up like a flower and the hatchling opened its eyes to see Shiranui for the first time. "Well, aren't you a cutie," Shiranui commented as he scanned the newborn with his Pokédex.

This Pokémon stores up feelings of happiness inside its shell, then shares them with others.[/i]" Shiranui found from reading the entry that the Togepi species had something in common with the Kirlia Species.
"I'll name you Kanki," Shiranui said with a gentle voice. Kanki yawned and went to sleep, the spikes on top of his head closing back up to resume an egg shape. Shiranui gently tapped Kanki with the Poké Ball provided with the Togepi's egg case and Kanki was made an official part of the team.
