I can imagine how awkward it must have been. 

I'm also just not as much a fan of that kind of poetry. Literature usually doesn't make me feel, it only makes me think. Living in the modern day, I know slavery to be awful; it doesn't require much thinking. I will say, though, that Frederick Douglass is awesome.
