He was bred by Zouken to win the War, but other than that he's really got [i]nothing[/i] going for him. He tries real hard to find meaning in what he does, even if he needs to put meaning where there is none, but usually ends up doubting himself and his actions more than anything. He's only fighting the War because Zouken told him to, but his goal, his meaning, is to create a utopia, to rid all the evils of the world. In that sense, his personality isn't incomparable to the likes of other 'heroes of justice' like Shirou or Kiritsugu... ...Or, perhaps, a younger Makiri Zolgen. [b]Biography:[/b] The story of the Matou family is one of rises and falls, of triumphs and failures, of hope and despair. They are a once proud family of magi originating from Russia under the name 'Zolgen'. Sometime back in the 15th Century they left - or rather, were chased out of - their homeland and forced to find refuge elsewhere. They came in contact with the Einzbern family some time roughly 150 years ago. They provided their assistance in creating the ritual known as Heaven's Feel, given their head, an idealistic fellow known formerly as Makiri Zolgen, was attracted to the Einzbern homunculus meant to serve as the sacrifice to complete Holy Grail. Naturally, such a romance could only end in tragedy. And it did. Makiri became more zealous, more unfettered in his efforts to see the Heaven's Feel ritual to the end in order to honor his love. Eventually it would take its toll, all of his artificial life extension rotting his soul and warping his mindset, driving a man who believed in his ideals into despair and beginning a legacy of suffering for the newly-christened Matou family. Tohya is the next in the slowly-dying Matou lineage. His childhood was all but lost, spent deep in the recesses of the Matou household within several feet of Crest Worms like the others before him. And even the without the Worms, his training at the hands of their ancient patriarch was harsh and strict, the art of magecraft practically carved and beaten into his juvenile mind and body in almost every way imaginable. After all, if he was to be the one to seize victory for the Matou, he should be groomed to suit such a responsibility, to become a ruthless magus fighting in a war of ruthless magi. However, even with all that he'd experienced, Tohya would not succumb to despair. Rather, all that pain took the bright-eyed young child and strengthened his resolve. This suffering would not - [i]could not[/i] - be meaningless. There had to be a purpose... Because if there wasn't, why would it be happening? And so, his naive mindset turned something meaningless, something that was supposed to break him, into a test of his ideals. But perhaps it all turned out for the best. Nevertheless, even with his training taking up the entirety of his free time, Tohya was still allowed to go to school and live like a (relatively) normal human - the fact his body wasn't broken completely by the Crest Worms likely had something to do with that - and even managed to skimp out on the Imperial Japanese Army's conscription due to being the 'sole supporter of the Matou family', which was honestly a big joke, all things considered. So [i]maybe[/i] Zouken wasn't a complete cock. Yet. [b]Magecraft[/b] Elemental Affinity: Water Number of Magic Circuits: A- (IT BEGINS) Quality of Magic Circuits: A+ Prana Tank: A [hider2=General Magecraft] All general magecraft and knowledge of magical principles required to qualify as a true magus [/hider2] [hider2=Matou Crest] Absorption magecraft Familiarcraft Water magecraft [/hider2] [hider2=Personal Magecraft] Conversion of aquatic substances to Crest Worms, and Familiars into aquatic substances (Utilization of the conceptual connection between "waters of life" and "primordial soup" with the element of Water; and of "organisms" and "life" with Familiars) High-Speed Aria Ice magecraft Mystic Code construction Mystic Eyes of Binding (Artificial) Presence Concealment Self-Reinforcement [/hider2] [hider2=Grail War Knowledge] Command Seal mechanics Founding Families Grail War history Servant-Master system [/hider2] [b]Mystic Codes:[/b] [hider2=Absorption Gloves] Tohya's magnum opus. A pair of highly durable gloves that absorb up to two Rank A spells or several lower ranks equalling thus. From there, the user can either disperse the stored prana harmlessly into the environment, or store the spells to use their prana to power a spell or actualize the stored spell at the speed of Single-Action. Against area of effect spells, the spell will be 'funnelled' into the gloves and stored, sparing anyone behind - but not to the side of - the user. In addition to absorbing mysteries, this potent Mystic Code can also harmlessly absorb the effects of magical items and enchantments without actualizing their effects on the wearer or the gloves, with the same storage capacity as the previous. Tohya also possesses a single set of spares should the originals be destroyed by an overflow of prana or some such. [/hider2] [hider2=Azoth Dagger] Spell amplifying dagger, natch. [/hider2] [hider2=Azoth Spear] Let's not kid ourselves here. It's a magic staff. ...And it definitely is not a stick with an Azoth Dagger taped to it. Because it actually isn't. [/hider2] [hider2=Enchanted Coat] A long coat with protective enchantments designed to absorb and immediately disperse all sorts of hostile prana, effectively acting as a sort of Magic Resistance. Unfortunately it lacks defense against more mundane attack vectors without the effects of Reinforcement, Alteration, or other magecraft. [/hider2] [hider2=Crest Worms] The trademark Matou Family familiars. We should all know how these work.
