The Capsule Corp people wouldn't let a random alien stranger train in their gravity chamber, and it's a moot point during this whole tournament arc anyways. 

Edit: If the IC events allow for it you might get a chance to get stronger, for now you're in the same boat as all of the other spectating characters.
