Well elves are basically a type of faerie, for background I mainly drew from Shakespeare for my depiction of Faeries. 

Basically in the RP, Oberon is the most powerful Fae alive and overlord of all Faeries but is usually uninvolved in politics. Under him are his two also very powerful wives who are more active. Titania who leads the Summer Court, made of the "nicer" Fae and Mab queen of the "meaner" Winter Court. Oberon's marriages to both stablize relationships between the Courts but both are still engaged in duplicitious and backstabbing politics. 

Elves, Orcs, and Dwarves among others are offshoots of the Fae and are usually autonomous but are still alinged with either court. You could use any folk lore or fairy tale for inspiration buts its perfectly valid for your character to be a mostly OC Elf. And half breeds are posible. The section on House Rose mentions their alliance with an Elf Nation, perhaps your character can be from there and a companion of the Sleeping Beauty?
