Jake Elwood was already at the school, sitting on a bench just outside the front doors and surfing the NET with his NET Navi, Blade.EXE. The two of them had been together for a number of years, since he was about eight, and the two were quite the accomplished pair of virus busters, having even been asked by the teachers to help take care of any viral trouble they might have, and taking out the occasional heal navi. Tournaments and challenges were common too. However, today wasn't a day for virus busting, and they weren't surfing the NET for the fun of it. They were waiting for Hiro Alexander, Jake's best friend and rival, and his Navi Xero.EXE, Blade's battle partner and sparring partner. While they waited, they watched the news and also made conversation, discussing what was being talked about on the news. "In other news, the research lab where the EM technology is being researched has recieved further security after an attempt by NET terrorists earlier in the week attempted to force entry both from the NET and at the doors. Officials overseeing the project made no comment on the event." Jake was worried, because his dad worked at the same facility and Jake hadn't heard from his dad since the incident.

Blade appeared on his shoulder. "Your father is fine, Jake. If there was a danger to him or if he was hurt, the research head would have contacted you and your mother." Jake just nodded, rewinding back to the brief story on the EM research facility and watching all the security guards, both Navi and human, watching for trouble.
