[/quote] If you use -dono, you are either a shopkeeper, or a samurai talking to someone they review as their feudal lord. -kun is only appropriate with boys and your inferiors [i]within an environment[/i] (sempai/kohai stuff, workplaces), -san is roughly equivalent to Mr. X if you go back a couple of decades in the Western world. -chan is young girls (and... maybe boys? not sure) up to teens, but definitely implies closeness. And yes, -sama is for those you respect. That's what I remember, at least.
