Hm. I was thinking that the current royals, with your female out of the way, would think that the crystal would have no choice but to select them as the next stabilizing force. The current royals _do_ have some royal blood in them but it's not much though; there is no difference between the current ruler and a non-royal (as far as the crystal is concerned). They come from a small, lesser noble house who are generations from the actual royal line. It's like the difference between you and a neighbor - you might share a common ancestor hundreds or thousands of years ago but you aren't related today.
