Appearance: Favoring the Gothic style, Zaylin has naturally paler skin and wears elegant, black outfits whenever she can, including a velvet coat when the weather calls for something fairly warm. Her eyes are usually a dark gray, almost black, but they tend to change to lighter grays, or even a mix of shades, often lighter near the pupil and darker at the edges of the iris. Name: Zaylin Calina Devonshire Nickname: Her friends call her Zay Age: 16 Year: 3 Supernatural: Dragon-hybrid. She is capable of turning into a sort of hybrid black dragon. She can choose to what degree she transforms (how much dragon to how much human) and has a longer lifespan than the average human, ageing slower. She is also capable of controlling fire and air while in human form and has slightly greater speed, strength, and agility. In her dragon-hybrid form, she also has control over darkness. Personality: Though she prefers to be a loner, Zaylin is still fairly good in groups. However, she has a quick anger and a vengeful spirit, even if only in thought and not action, and can hold a grudge for years. A helpful girl, she is more than happy to aid others, but will refrain from seeking out help for herself as long as possible, preferring to get things done on her own. She is also passionate and creative, loving to draw and spilling her heart into writings. Though she usually follows rules when disobeying would bring about extreme consciences (or her grandmother’s wrath), she always questions why they are in place, and will break them if she believes they are meant to be broken. She also has an affinity for precious and shiny items, favoring precious/semi-precious stones, jewelry, and ancient books. Bio: Zaylin grew up with her parents, who were of middleclass standing. For most of her life, she went to school, her grades rarely if ever falling below an “A,” and made friends like a normal girl—until she turned thirteen. A couple days before her birthday, her grandmother—who looked strangely young for a woman supposedly of nearly seventy—revealed to the girl that she was of dragon descent, proving it by morphing into a magenta dragon-hybrid. Though they were uncertain at first whether the dragon blood in her would manifest itself after skipping her mother, her parents reluctantly consented to allowing her grandmother to train and teach her. Zaylin quickly learned to respect and fear her grandmother, and to obey the woman’s demands. Somehow, the girl still managed to juggle her grandmother’s lessons, spending time with friends, and maintaining an “A” average in public school. When she turned fourteen, the first hope of her ability being passed on to her manifested, much to her delight. She found that her physical abilities had enhanced beyond what her grandmother’s training had brought about, and discovered her control over fire and air one evening while spending time with her grandmother. About a year after that—a time in which her grandmother had tried vigorously to be capable of getting Zaylin to transform—she finally managed to morph into a young, black-scaled dragon as her dragon blood finally fully settled in. Though much smaller and weaker than the full hybrid form of her grandmother, she had done it. The family legacy had passed on to her. Just before she turned sixteen, she received her invitation to attend the academy, and her grandmother quickly jumped in. Though Zaylin protested against the uniform of the school, her grandmother made the final say. Zaylin’s parents wisely went along with her grandmother’s wishes and sent the girl to Northwood Academy. How you came to the school: Transferred after her sophomore year at high school. Her grandmother had attended the school, and was excited when Zaylin received an invitation to the school. Her grandmother—who accumulated plenty of money in her lifetime—quickly took up the financial responsibilities for Zaylin to attend the school. Preferred Dorm: Wells Hall
