That depends on what DEWs you're talking about. Some have effective ranges measured in light minutes (though this gives the defending space vessel a considerable amount of time to move to a new position before the beam makes contact); a missile or solid slug would spend weeks or even months traveling across the same distance.

Which makes invading a planet pointless in general if it's going to take years to win the battle, an unreasonable amount of war material to pull the win off and even more time and resources to get the planet back into operational status after the conflict has been concluded. You'd be better off obtaining your own material through strip mining or locating uninhabited planets for colonization.

In the case of overly-hostile species that have an obsessive compulsion to invade everything with a pulse, I'd just quarantine their system.

I think you're trying to make an entire legion of unbeatable ground soldiers while trying to balance it by giving your faction a crap space force. From a logical POV, it doesn't make much sense.

You don't roleplay realistically at all. This entire RP runs on **Rule of Cool** and **Arbitrary Balancing Limitations**.
