Well, Aurora wasn't the main character of the story nor movie... Prince Phillip was if we are being honest. Yes, she is what brings a beginning to the story and she is the 'prize' at the end but she's just there to be saved. Not to mention, women weren't expected to do much when the movie was made in 1959, less so when the Brothers Grimm adapted it from  Charles Perrault La belle au bois dormant.... But with her being a princess, she has an uncanny ability with animals... maybe something with that?
