**Appearance:** An old man, with a slender build and of meagre height. He has balding grey hair, thick rimmed glasses and blue eyes. His left leg is prosthetic from just above the kneecap, although it is covered in artificial skin and not immediately noticeable. He is of Caucasian descent.

**Personality:** Ken is an arrogant academic. Denied a social life from a young age, due to his unusually high level of intelligence, he can appear extremely awkward and even ignorant in social situations. His logical approach to matters can often present him as a heartless individual, although in truth he always advocates sacrificing the few for the many. 

**History:** Ken was one of the key researchers on Reach exploring medicinal means of combating the Flood. His team had tried countless anti-parasitic formulas on a wide range of theoretical test subjects, being denied a living one due to the risks. Before his facility was evacuated, his team were able to produce very promising results. However, the Flood have now destroyed the facility and all of his research, meaning the laptop and the four phials are the last of his legacy. As of now, Ken's formula has only been tested by a computer, not on a real Flood victim, so its true effect is yet to be determined.

**Appearance:** Small but athletic frame. Blonde hair, tied back and kept short in military fashion. Blue eyes and soft features. 50% of her flesh is covered in plasma burns, a personal relic from a decade ago. She is of Caucasian descent.

**Personality:** Zhenya is a no-nonsense type. She never laughs, and rarely smiles. Always, her mind is on getting the job done. She does not suffer screw ups. She has no problem with aggressively disagreeing with her peers, regardless of rank, in the current situation. 

**History:** Zhenya is the sole survivor of the ONI Security detail assigned to Doctor Ken Holgersen. Initially, she piloted the UH-144 Falcon that extracted her team and the doctor from the beleaguered research facility. However, ground fire from the Flood stuck one of the rotors, forcing her to perform a crash landing. This killed most of her team, but she and the doctor escaped unharmed. She has spent the last two days hauling her charge to the nearest safe zone - but finds them overrun each time.
