Not a vulpix, and not against John, as fire is kind of a thing he's used to. John also is one of those people who does fight pokemon himself and due to his special training, he is very good at it. Now this doesn't mean he can take out a steelix or anything like that, but he could definietly take on a lot of the weaker pokemon around with varying levels of difficulty. Plus, his mace is made out of Haxorus blades, so dragon types be wary.
