Imo, an rpg requires story that involves the player directly and has some form of player choice. A la Fallout (Dunno about all of them, only seen 3 and played New Vegas). True but then there is the RPG(or JRPG) that does different where the story is the direction your characters go and the battles/combat are the main focus where the player is involved. those work well too!
