There's an easy solution for this.  Just have either Jerod or Thalia (or even Marianne say something along the lines of "Hey, we're heading to Regna Ferox eventually.  Maybe that barbarian from Ferox would be usefully.  Let's see if he wants to join us."  After that, Jerod and/or Thalia would tell him to meet at the barracks (giving directions if necessary).  Problem solved.
