As long as you understand the lore of season 5, and you understand how Supernatural as a whole works, then you are fine.  As far as your character, I'm fine with that.  Watch his powers, and be as realistic as Supernatural could be, and you're fine there too.

As far as where we are.  We are at Hammer of the Gods, which is the episode where Lucifer kills a bunch of pagan gods.
