Time setting sounds good to me, but with the kid's status as you've set it, I'd see him not having much access to the higher tech. 

If you're getting antsy to get started, there is only one last thing I kinda need before we begin: A Character Sheet. I have a really decent one I use, it's easy to just fill in and helps me heaps to keep track of both characters and gives me a better feel for things. *Big shiny eyes* I can just post the empty outline here and fill mine out some time later tonight. . . . .*Bats eyes*
