Just because you can, doesn't necessarily mean you should. It's in bad spirits to trample all over an established, liked character, and generally a fanbase doesn't take well to such.

Remember the DmC fiasco? The game shit all over Dante's character and the franchise in general,, and the collective fanbase became this concentrated ball of rage.

Yeah, but he wasn't Deathstroke. He was his own thing. He is still his own established thing.
It's one thing to create a character and call it an homage to another; it's another to take said character, alter it drastically, and call it the same.
