As for Nathan his influence in politics, because of the principle "I don't care who started, all of you are involved and the older ones take the blame." Nathan's influence is moderate to be honest. The council knows he is a witness but responsibilities, "You are older than them, you should take responsibilities and know it." 

In politics not just leadership. If we're going to go deeper into the political standards/aspects. Nathan is likely to be a candidate for a Wizard Saint or employee at the magic council.
