Close. It was actually a feint followed by a surprise attack on the capital that ended up killing several high-ranking generals, annihilating a couple legions and leaving a few more out in the brush, surrounded by enemies with their supply lines cut.

Anyway, our backstories will fit together nicely. The rebellion would be happening at the same time as your war with the Syndicalists up north, so there would be no chance to send reinforcements down south.
