What a remarkable coincidence that this revelation appears just before their appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron.  It's almost as if Marvel, who doesn't own the movie rights to Magneto, are just pissing on several decades of canon to spite Fox, who DOES own the movie rights to Magneto.
