Pete was rather confused at the sudden occurrences. First his target had fled using a grappling arm, then his "friend" apparently disappeared, and now he was alone. Pete, at this point, realized that he was no longer drunk, and was suitably horrified. As he stumbled over to the refrigerator, Pete noticed that the previously bare wall right next to it was now occupied by a bright orange airlock. Curiosity momentarily overtaking his need for sweet release, Pete walked through the airlock. In the room beyond, Pete was faced with a truly beautiful sight. A red, swirling disc gently and slowly bounced around a small cage made of interlocking electric arcs. Four lasers, placed on each corner of the cage, periodically fired into it; each shot seemed to reinforce the cage. At the port end of the cage was a console and a massive laser, this one firing a scattershot of purplish-pink lasers into the disc itself. This was the Singularity Engine, and it was the backbone of any Nanotrasen ship. Pete briefly stared in wonder, before the rather uncomfortable sensation of his eyes starting to boil forced him to look away. Clearly, he'd need some eye protection.
