Kinda, I guess my rational is things like radiation can be detected, so why not magical energy. Like magic calls to like magic. I could probably explain this better, sorry! It ties into the idea that if magic users know another individuals magic well they could trace it..

But I am sort of making this up as I go along, feel free to call BS at any point
