I don't see how this is a surprise, considering how he's been alive for quite sometime, and isn't the most morally upright of people. He probably has a lot of children that he has no idea about all over Fiore, considering he wandered around the country for about 50 years with no real purpose or reasons not to.

Able to, yes, caring, no. Revan has no idea Xavier exists, and even if he did, probably wouldn't want to be anywhere near him due to the fact that it be too much trouble to deal with. He finds it hard dealing with the younger members of his own guild, so why the hell would he want to deal with a kid.
