It's actually quite good. I'm a fan of the original myself, but I didn't go in expecting a bunch of fan service. It's a reboot, not a remake after all. I'm disappointed it wasn't rated R but whateves.

They put a lot of emphasis on Murphy's struggle to remain in control of his actions and prove that he is still human while Omnicorp does it's best to remain in control of what it considers to be its product. And his family plays into the story a lot more in this one. Personally, I never felt bad for Murphy in the first one because I don't recall ever seeing his family. They do a better job of making him relatable now. Well, after he gets blown up. He was kind of a douche when he was normal.

I'm not sure why black armor is such a big deal though. It actually makes sense honestly. Cops in the us wear black or dark blue, so why shouldn't Robocop? If it makes you feel better, they eventually make him the original color.
