Unread posts tracking would be useful, yes... especially if combined with a minor change to the subscriptions/forum page links from "jump to last post" to "jump to last unread post".

maybe the notifications on subscriptions could be on the subscriptions page instead of the notifications page?
like a tag beside/below a topic "[i]n[/i] new posts"?
