The Romanticisation of European Imperialism: Thread Number 285
I agree. Romanticizing imperial China or Mongollian conquests needs to be done more. Mongolians need to have some white washing sometimes. They did after all make the Silk Road safe and secure along with connect much of Asia in their reign.
NRP section (and, arguably, much of RPG in general) only recognizes three 'distinct' civilizations and noteworthy events during the course of human history: 1) Anything and everything that has to do with Rome 2) Any civilization in Medieval Europe 3) Any of the prominent colonial empires present during the European Colonial Period (Portugal, Spain, Britain, the Netherlands, Russia, and France) 4) WWI (exceedingly rare) and WWII (exceedingly common) Honorable mentions and petty hat-tips are given to the continent of Asia (this, of course, doesn't include India, while Russia is somewhat of an enigma when it comes to Russians desperately trying to conclude whether or not they're Europeans or Asians), but the Chinese and Japanese are universally considered to be pleb-tier peoples that produced shit-tier civilizations that are only worthy of begrudging acknowledgement from the West because they made good cannons, rockets, compasses, and PS4s. The Middle East is something that no one cares about. Naturally, the Americas and Africa are the bitches of anyone that's wearing a pickelhaube. Or in Africa's case, a pickelhaube or a keffiyeh. EDIT: One could argue that the fascination for the West merely stems from the fact that this forum, being an English-speaking board, is predominantly populated by Westerners and people of European ancestral stock.
