Trust me, we all do at some point. I myself didn't think I would do so well with Gensokyo and Fatal Fighters.

Pro Tip: Try to see the average calculations of games around the review scores you get for your games, then immedately release merchandise afterwards, according to the average earnings of the review of your game. 

Keep in mind, bigger companies can publish, offer you contracts, and even give you a loan.
