Pushing himself to the point where he's actively hurting his body would basically cloak him in a shroud of Void energy. He'd have about ten minutes or so in this form before his internal injuries get too bad for him to recover on his own.

The shroud would be dense enough to eat most small arms fire before they could hit him and he'd be an effective anti-armor "unit" at that point with the Void eating through tank armor with sustained attacks. If forced to he'd also be able to launch a few focused blasts that would completely erase an unprotected human, but after doing so he'd be forced to immediately stop or die. 

If he does die while actively using the Void, the energies will burst forth from his corpse immediately afterwards. The immediate 100m or so around him would be saturated and probably wiped clean of anything unless actively protected or naturally durable.
