And there were calls for independence, mostly in the fringe, but they never got that far. The native populations are way too small, and the places they hold a majority way too rural and dependent to make any serious effort. A serious Native movement with political clout large enough to sincerely threaten secession is as silly as the idea that Florida could be independent.
