About that... randomly digging your way into the area to pillage everything in sight and force the characters into battle, when the current goal is to have some downtime, probably isn't the best idea. Especially when most, if not all of the present PC's would have no qualms killing your character to keep the civilians safe, sorry to say.

And I don't think it's possible for characters from either side to just invade each other so easily. It was an important point that the attack from five minutes ago was extremely unusual in that regard.
