How is such an incredibly old object (as old as Davis) able to BOND to a POKEMON? Let alone function after being exposed to the elements for all these years?

As unique as you want your character to be, in the end if you go as far as that, it just begins to feel more alien than something that can be naturally explained through a biography. Point is, you're better sticking to a Pokemon with already viable defence rather than trying to force a unique approach to your character.
