The mature content does primarily refer to explicit or sexual text as that causes issues with Google's adsense; but we still do have to have considerations for the younger members with regards with content. We generally are less concerned with gore content just as long as it's not excessive. The basics of it is that the gore can accentuate the post but it shouldn't [i]be the post[/i].
