Also, I'm having trouble applying special filter effects on the characters only. I currently have them displayed in separate layers, but every time I try to saturate their colors, I end up saturating the entire picture. Some input on this will actually help me improve a lot. o_o;

Select everything outside a character with magic wand.

Inverse selection.

Now only the character is selected. 

Only the character inside the selection will be saturated.
