France and Algeria. Russia and Afghanistan. The US and France in Vietnam. The US in Iraq. It's a bad idea to underestimate what happens when a group of people are willing to sacrifice everything. Not to say that people should start using that as an excuse to start doing stupid shit. As a rule of thumb, people only fight when they have a personnel connection to something. You can get people to fight for their homelands much easier than you can to get them to fight far away.
