I wanted to draw a picture, but the scale kept getting wonky, and I couldn't find a good way to represent the effects of orbital mechanics on high-velocity non-accelerating objects of (relatively) low mass, so I'll just say it:

Spandez's ship is in space. It is hiding behind the moon, not "up in the air." While Bolt's car was totaled beyond repair by tiny "Rods from God," it was not a malicious act on the part of Spandez. Rather, it was the incompetence of his two lieutenants.
