So this Empire would be a smaller version of what it was? That's cool. Would Palpatine still be at its head? Or would a Council of Moffs have taken the helm? I'm happy to play them, researching them as we speak, actually (the Star Wars universe is pretty readable!), though I'd defer to someone more grounded in the lore. If it were me though, I think Palpatine would have forged ahead, declaring that "All who wish to save what we love, follow me!" more or less. The less trusting of him would have gone and made the Republic successor states, whilst the fence-sitters and the "YAH WARRRRR!!!" types would have backed him. He'd of set aside everything democratic, declaring himself (although I think he already had by this point) the indefinite leader of the Galactic Empire pending the Trade Federation's defeat.
Aye, it would be a smaller version of what it was. Depending on how things play out, it's power fluctuates anywhere between that of the (currently)NPC Trade Federation and the Grand Republic of Mandalore, though can dip below both of them. Biggest thing against them is the factor of public support and the competition between them and nearly all other factions in the galaxy. They are essentially a declawed Ottoman Empire right now, they may have a decent power base to sit in and defend, but everyone hates them and wants a piece of them, and there's really not much they can do about it. The reason for that, is that while the other republic factions(including the GRM to a degree) can ally together freely and will do so, there is no one for the Empire to align themselves with. @Palpatine: I neglected to add in the part of the Second Battle for Coruscant where Grievous glassed the surface and dropped a building on Palpatine, but if you want to do something with Palpatine leading the Empire, then we can always hash things out and get something cool going.
