[quote=@MonsieurShade] If I might make an argument for Nookzer's character, I personally rather like the idea of having a human that relies more on a scientific aspects seeing as magic and tech aren't mutually exclusive. If I had to make a guess from your stating of this being mostly magic, someone is bound to have learned how to craft magic and tech into magitech (which is arguably better than both magic and technology given that it takes from both of the components), so it stands to reason that there would still be plenty of science too, even if it's not as popular, yes? That aside, Nookzer's character adds a nice humanistic twist that would be refreshing. A human that relies more on his tools and honed skills than on magic is a nice touch in a world of monsters. Lastly, if you'd rather he not use the word "mercenary" for his occupation, perhaps he could be called a soldier of fortune. It means the same thing, however it's a bit more narrowed, as a soldier of fortune is generally hired for purely combative reasons and assassination whereas a mercenary can be hired for nearly anything so long as the pay is good. So I realize now that his character is fine I will be updating my post soon most likely tomorrow at some point maybe tonight before I get off.
