"So, the Republic would have the galaxy believe that its heart is secure. Today's events, however, show that there is nothing that can stop our forces from total victory." - General Grievous
The Republic has fallen
Twenty years to the day, the unthinkable happened, the Confederacy of Independent System led by general Grievous executed a multi-front assault on the Republic. From the beginning of the war, Grievous had known that an assault on Coruscant alone could not win the war, for the Open-Circle Fleet would rally and push aside anything that came to face it. Such was why for the duration of the conflict, he never contributed his full forces, taking losses where he could, and drawing the Republic into believing the Federation weaker than what it truly was. Even when Dooku abandoned the CIS to accept trial by the Jedi Council, Grievous planned ahead and engaged the first Battle for Coruscant as planned, capturing Palpatine and allowing him to go free with the jedi Kenobi and Skywalker. With the Republic gaining ground against the CIS, and moving deeper into the Outer Rim, time was nigh to spring the trap. As the fleets spread to execute the Outer Rim campaign, reports came in from Kamino, Kuat and Fondor that large concentrations of Federation warships had been sighted in route. Rerouting vessels from central command, the Open Circle Fleet rallied to shore up defenses of the three worlds, unwittingly falling into the trap set for them. As soon as battle was engaged, Grievous launched a surprise attack on Coruscant, engaging the Second Battle of Coruscant, and smashing the defense forces that had been stationed there. In just hours the Republic had gone from holding an advantage in momentum, to helplessly watching as their most important worlds were under siege, and Coruscant burned. Worse yet, in his bombardment of the planet, Grievous had strategically targeted the Senate Building and the Jedi Temple, vaporizing both buildings in a rain of turbolaser fire. Left without a capital, their centres of the military under siege, and the CIS rallying to Grievous' call stronger than ever, General Kenobi issued the order to disengage and fallback to the emergency rendezvous point above the galactic plane. From here, Kenobi and the admirals of the fleet who were able to rally, came up with a plan to further the survival of not only the Republic, but also the Jedi order. The remnants of the remaining fleets pressed on in their own battles, fighting out what they could and holding the line against the CIS even as the Clone Wars came to an official end with Kenobi's general order of retreat. Broken and disorganized, the Republic broke into dozens of successor states in the wake of the Federation's decisive victory, each looking to survive either alongside the Federation, or in the shadows of it. Even the Jedi themselves fell to the crushing blow against the Republic, the one copy of the Jedi Archives with the Open Circle Fleet and the Mandalorians, and many of their order cut off from friendly forces, those still on the front faded from sight until they could afford to surface once more. Twenty years later, and the Republic still lingers on in the spirit of those successor states holding out across the galaxy. Peace is a tenuous concept, as the Federation struggles to maintain control over former republic space, and put down uprisings as they occur. Worrying for some is the rise of a new power known as the Empire, one that has coalesced from former commanders of the Open Circle Fleet, and taken important worlds formerly of the Old Republic. Despite this, the republic states hold strong together in a common bond of kinship and tradition against the Empire and the Federation. Even the Grand Republic of Mandalore, and the Jedi Enclaves have come to stand alongside the other successor states, finally entering into the conflict at hand after fifteen years of structuring their government to support not just the Mandalorians and Jedi, but also the Kaminoan refugees and a greater number of unaligned force-users. The galaxy is poised yet again to enter into a civil war as the larger powers look to each other as a threat to their own stability and freedom.
The OOC
Welcome to Star Wars: Grievous Ascent, an alternate timeline SW NRP set after the fall of the Republic and in an era where for some, the Clone Wars never ended, yet for others it was the end of their way of life. Players can take up the role of a faction aligned with the Republic successor states, the Trade Federation, the Empire, the Grand Republic of Mandalore, or even as one of many neutral states just looking to survive the war looming on the horizon. Beyond the coming war, the main point of this RP, however, will be the story of our nations and how they have come to define themselves in the years following the death of Chancellor Palpatine and the end of the Republic. Many things have changed from the beginning of the Clone Wars all the way to the moment the IC begins. The question is, where does your nation or organization stand in a galaxy divided?
The rules
- First and foremost, I am the GM, but my word is not law. I am the interpreter of the rules, but if I have made an error in judgement, do call me out on it. What makes an RP good is when the players know the rules, and follow them, but what makes one truly great is when the players feel confident in telling the GM that they dun goofed and the story prospers because of the trust between GM and player. - Honor the intentions and goals of your fellow players. We're building a collaborative realm here, and though I may have invested quite a bit into my own faction, I feel it more important to see everyone have enjoyment of the setting, rather than cling to a particular facet that may not even be that important. Yeah, Mace Windu may be kicking around the Enclaves as I have it in my own NS, but if someone says "Would it be alright if Windu was part of this nation?" I'm going to very likely say "Sure thing, go for it." - Don't be a dick. This really should be rule one, as we are all here to have fun and write a damn good story. If you do something, or think about doing something to someone else's nation/creation and feel that you would be upset if the same was done to you, chances are you are ruining someone's fun. Let's not do that. - If you have an idea for a plot, no matter what it may be, and it involves someone else's faction in any way, talk to them about it. This kind of falls under both rule two and three, in that you should respect the intentions of your fellow players and bring things up with them if it involves their creations. Otherwise, you're kind of being a dick. - I will forget to list rules. Don't be surprised if this space expands.
