Speaking in a modern fashion I have no issue with. Perhaps to circumvent the modern technology and events problem, you could create a set of pseudo-modern parameters to work from from within the living world. Maybe your character comes from a nation in which techno-magic is a thing? Other than that, it's not like that your character will have specific memory of many events, though.
