It would likely work in such a way that given categories (yet to be defined) would be figured for the character's skills and various traits, then averaged out and/or added up so as to gauge their overall/general power rating. This should be discussed as to whether or not this system should be necessary for everyone, or just for those who choose to opt in.
So each area is assigned a number based on the mention of the traits, their strength/weakness in battle, and finally totaled up would be assigned a tier level? Here's some thoughts for that which aren't meant to discourage it, mainly cause to be honest, I would like some clear classification to compare power level though I don't think strength and high tier should influence how a battle plays out. However for players who are struggling to figure out the actual difference between power levels in combat, this could help quite a bit to understand and determine how badly one's ass will/should get whipped. Also helps to determine who I need to call when I want someone to wrangle in a PC without killing him. >_<
I'd be cool with that. I mean, I'd need help filling it out because I'm derp like that. But I'd be cool with it. People couldn't really argue about their character losing if that became a thing.
I can help if you need some. Namely it's a higher and less vague system of the arena system for tiers, though these might need examples of types that belong in each tier and examples why which would help explain the reason a PC was set in that tier.Though that's just my thinking. Also, Celaira, keep in mind just because someone's a higher level doesn't mean they will automatically win or the other person will lose in a horrible instant type way. I personally think arena fights in any way is all about give and take: if you want to draw blood, than you better be willing to even it out by taking some yourself. Namely the same amount or it could be seen as insulting. Usually in a battle that doesn't have a predetermined winner (or I know the PC I'm battling won't kill my PC should they win- Big factor there for me as I need them alive...some times...), the more creative you are and more I'm enjoying the fight, than more likely I'll be letting to take the lost though it won't be given easily. Though that's more of a ramble and how I think sorry about that as I know not everyone thinks that way. Another thought to keep in mind is everyone sees things different and while some of us might see one thing as an advantage or key trait, others (including GMs) might not. So how do you determine the worth of one set of traits over another? Do you take the approach of flexibility vs specialization where the being with the multiple talent has less strength over all due the fact they can do more than a PC with say only talent in one area or what? What's the scale, 1-10 or less? How many tier levels? I know normal humans would've been the lowest as they are basically at level 0 without magics, enhance equipment, skills, etc. Usually NPC fodder. :P However, how detailed or vague should the tiers be? What happens when two PCs of the same level end up battling, would the result be a tie all the time or flip of the coin type deal? Where one wins this time and next time the other one wins, or which ever works best with the situation? ..... Damn it! I got carried away...AGAIN!!!!!
